Today in Sunday School a beautiful lesson was presented about the many names given to Jesus Christ. After watching “The Christ Child” (link below) the class was asked to share their personal favorite titles attributed to Him and listed nearly fifty on the board. Here are just a few that were shared: Prince of Peace, Counselor, Advocate, Light of the World, Bread of Life, Friend, Good Shepherd, Master Healer, The True Vine, King of Kings, Deliverer, Creator, Lamb of God, Beloved Son.
As I contemplated which of His titles has significance in my life, Author & Finisher of our Faith came to mind from Hebrews 12:2:
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.“
Jesus Christ plays a central part of each of our stories as Author and Finisher. Because of His atoning sacrifice, our tragedies may be transformed into happier endings. He is helping me to write and rewrite my own story. He is helping me to accept what I have not been able to accept. He is helping me to forgive what I have not been able to forgive. His Atonement is the greatest gift ever given on this earth. When I learn about Him and study about His life, I am filled with a sense of peace and assurance I cannot find anywhere else. Without Him we are nothing; with Him, we are more than enough. He gives me hope that my past need not define my future. We all deserve the chance for a new beginning!
Every year, The Church of Jesus Christ invites all to participate in #LightTheWorld to transform Christmas into a season of service. It’s a worldwide movement to touch hearts and change lives by doing the things Jesus did: feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, visiting the sick and afflicted, and showing kindness to everyone. Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). #LightTheWorld is the perfect way to let our light—and His light—shine brightly.
The presentation of the nativity in “The Christ Child” moves me each time I watch it. Seeing Him stand as an innocent child in front of the bowing wise men who knew of His divine destiny is my favorite part. I am grateful for the gift of Jesus Christ in my own life. If you are wanting to feel more of the Christmas spirit, I invite you to watch this video and share it with a friend. I promise it will lift your spirit and fill your heart with light!
